Cyanosis: The characteristic blue color of the skin observed when the amount of unoxygenated hemoglobin in the blood rises above 5g per 100ml of blood. Macrophages: Any of the large phagocytic cells of the reticuloendothelial system. Necrosis: Disease of the tissue in which it gradually turns gangrenous due to some organisms known in the media as "flesh-eating bacteria." Phagocytosis: The engulfing and ingestion of bacteria or other foreign bodies by phagocytes. Septicemia: A systemic disease caused by pathogenic organisms or their toxins in the bloodstream. Also called blood poisoning. |
